Why choose Assur360 for your insurance

Inflatable boats — Zodiac, Bombard, Brig, Highfield, Walker Bay, AB Inflatables — are divided into two main families: flexible inflatables (yacht dinghy, quiet fishing) and RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) semi-rigid boats used for diving, rescue and fast recreation.

In Quebec, insuring an inflatable costs an average of $280 to $850/year depending on the size, power of the outboard motor and use. Many homeowners neglect to insure them, mistakenly believing that home insurance covers them — this is rarely the case above $1,500. Consult our AMF certification and our Chamber of Insurance references.

Frequently Asked Questions — Inflatable Boat Insurance (Zodiac, RIB)

1. How much does Zodiac or inflatable insurance cost in Quebec?

From $180 to $950/year. A 3 m appendix with a 9.9 HP engine costs about $280, a 5 m RIB with 90 HP costs $420 – $680. High-performance RIBs (150+ HP) often exceed $900 due to increased risk.

2. Is my tire covered by my home insurance?

Partially. Most home policies cover a boat without an engine or with an engine of less than 25 HP, for a value under $1,500. Anything above requires a dedicated marine policy.

3. Does the insurance include the outboard motor?

Yes, the motor is covered if it is explicitly insured on the policy. Always specify the make, model, year, and serial number — an undeclared motor is not covered in case of theft.

4. What should I do if my tire is stolen?

Call Assur360 (1-866-357-4451) and the police immediately for a report. Photos of the trailer, storage location, and locks. The average compensation time is 10 to 21 days after the police report and purchase invoice.

5. Are torn tubes covered?

Accidental tearing yes (impact, collision). Progressive UV degradation no. A knife puncture/vandalism is covered subject to a police report.

6. Is my inflatable covered as a yacht tender?

Yes, via an “appendix” endorsement on the mother yacht’s policy — generally cheaper than a separate policy. Ask your insurance broker to link the two policies.

7. Do I need a CCEP card to drive a tire?

Yes, as soon as the engine exceeds 7.5 kW (about 10 HP), the pleasure craft operator card is mandatory in Canada, regardless of the type of boat.

8. Which locks are required by the insurer?

Insurers require an ASTM-approved U-lock or Sold Secure for the engine, and a covered anti-theft chain for the boat. Without proof of installation, the theft deductible doubles (often $1,000 → $2,000).

9. Can my bank account tow skiers/buoys?

Yes, towing is generally covered if declared in the contract. Some insurers require a $2M liability for towing (higher risk of injury), especially for tubes and wakeboarding.

10. Is my trailer tire covered?

During transport, yes — collision, overturning, theft of the entire unit during a stop. However, check that a “trailer” endorsement is added; otherwise, only the trailer itself is covered by the towing vehicle.
