Who should take out construction insurance?
April 24, 2025
- General contractors
- Project owners (owners, developers)
- Specialized subcontractors
- Self-builders (in some cases)
- Any person responsible for a construction or major renovation project
What is builders’ risk insurance?
A temporary policy that covers the building under construction (materials, work, improvements) against risks such as fire, theft, vandalism, wind, water damage during the duration of the project.
“Wrap-Up” vs CGL of each stakeholder?
The Wrap-Up is a “per project” civil liability that brings together project owner, general and subcontractors under a single policy (same limits/conditions), useful on medium/large sites.
What about pollution (mould, soil, hydrocarbons)?
You need a pollution liability (Contractors Pollution Liability). Some extensions exist, but a dedicated font is recommended.
