The profession of commercial insurance broker

Commercial insurance brokers advise SMEs, businesses, professionals and large companies on their business coverage needs: commercial civil liability, commercial property, cyber risk, professional liability (errors and omissions), surety bonds, commercial auto, freight transportation . At Assur360, you represent 15+ partner insurers and build tailor-made programs for each client company.

Unlike personal insurance, each business account is more complex, more profitable and more recurring. A manufacturing SME or a construction company can represent $3,000 to $30,000 in annual recurring commission. Your role: to understand the company, identify risks, negotiate with insurers and build a long-term relationship with the manager.

Frequently asked questions

Is it more difficult than being a private broker?
More complex, yes: commercial risks are more technical (contractual liability, supply chains, cyber). But it is also more profitable — an SME customer is worth 5 to 20 times more than a private customer in recurring commission.
How much does a commercial broker make at Assur360?
Base salary $55,000 to $105,000 depending on experience + uncapped commissions. A senior trading broker with a good portfolio regularly reaches $130,000 to $200,000 per year.
Can I switch from private individual to sales representative at Assur360?
Absolutely. This is a common path with us: after 2-3 years in private, many brokers ask for the commercial LLQP (paid) and transition to a B2B portfolio with support from a senior.
Do I need to do cold calling?
Assur360 provides hot sales leads via our web forms (business insurance, restaurant, agricultural, cyber, event…) and a portfolio of existing SMEs. Cold prospecting is possible but not mandatory — many of our brokers never do it.
Which business sectors are the most profitable?
Cyber risk, construction, professional liability (engineers, accountants, real estate brokers) and commercial fleets generate the highest premiums with a very good commission/effort ratio.
