Why your home insurance isn’t enough
An art collection, jewelry or valuable pieces often exceed the limits of standard home insurance (typically $2,500 to $5,000 per item). A floating valuables policy covers the agreed value, theft, accidental breakage, and even transportation.
Assur360 puts you in touch with partner firms specialising in fine art insurance (Lloyd’s, Chubb, AXA Art) – independent comparator.
Assurance œuvre d’art Québec 2026 : protéger collections, peintures et antiquités
Tableaux, sculptures, antiquités, collections : votre assurance habitation ne suffit pas. Voici comment protéger vos pièces de valeur.
Why your home insurance doesn’t cover your artwork
The standard home insurance policy imposes limits per property category: typically $5,000 to $10,000 for art, jewelry, antiques, and collections. Beyond this limit, a lost or damaged work is only reimbursed up to the ceiling. For collectors or owners of a significant work, a “valuable goods” endorsement (or dedicated fine art font) becomes essential. It allows each piece to be declared individually, to obtain the agreed value without a deductible on a claim, and to cover specific risks such as transport, loan to a museum or exhibition.
Valuable property endorsement
Option added to your home policy. Each piece listed, agreed value, reduced or eliminated deductible.
Dedicated fine art font
For high-value collections ($100K). Specialist brokers (Lloyd’s, AXA Art). Worldwide coverage, transport, exhibition.
Professional Assessment
Required for values $5,000/piece. Certified expert. To be renewed every 3 to 5 years depending on the market.
How to do it in 2026
Inventory your collection
High-resolution photos, certificates of provenance, purchase invoices, exhibition history. Keep documents outside (vault, bank, encrypted cloud).
Have each room appraised
Certified Experts (Canadian Society of Appraisers, Certified Appraisers Guild). Count $200-500/piece.
Choose the right package
Up to $25K total: endorsement. Beyond that, consider a dedicated policy. An Assur360 broker will guide you.
Review annually
The art market fluctuates. Re-evaluate major pieces every year, others every 3-5 years. Adjust your font.
⚠️ Transport of works: cover often forgotten
If you lend a work to a museum or transport it for exhibition, sale or restoration, your home policy does not follow it. A transport endorsement (or nail-to-nail policy) is essential. Damage during transport can cost tens of thousands of dollars.
