4 reasons to own a multi-trip annual insurance policy

Being an extreme sports and culture enthusiast, I travel quite often. At first, my knowledge of annual or single-trip insurance policies was very limited. Then I thought, maybe there are still a lot of us out there who don't know. So, to help you choose the right travel insurance, I'm going to try and share with you the experience I've gained over the years. The aim is to travel as much as possible for as little money as possible.

Depending on the insurer, trip cancellation insurance may apply in the event of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Why not opt for a multi-trip annual policy?

It's true that I'm far from an expert on the subject of travel insuranceI've often wondered which travel policy I should take, single or multiple? Last March, I was able to speak with a certified travel insurance advisor about my trip to the Congo. I had discovered this Canadian insurance company nearly a year ago, and for many months now, I've been going through Assur360.

When Assur360 asked me on the phone whether I wanted a single-trip policy or the multi-trip annual, I have to admit I didn't know how to answer. The question had never crossed my mind.

When I first started traveling, I limited myself to one trip a year, with a fairly long stay. Now I have the privilege of sharing my passions with the readers of my blog. So today, I travel much more often and for shorter periods of time, in order to vary the pleasures and avoid getting bored. It's now clear that there's a big difference between a single trip and multiple trips.

1. Save with multi-trip insurance

At first, I thought that a multi-trip annual policy must cost an arm and a leg. And yet, if like me, you love to travel, there are many advantages to opting for this policy. My broker showed me that it was the multi-trip annual policy that saved me the most money, if I traveled more than 2 times a year.

As I travel 4 to 5 times a year, for 15 to 30 days each time, it turns out that multiple trips are the most advantageous for me. What's more, I often take short trips to the United States or other Canadian provinces. And then I don't have to worry about insurance, because the annual multi-trip policy already covers me.

Please note that a year does not necessarily run from January 1 to December 31. The multi-trip policy begins on the date of your next trip.

2. You will be insured for the duration of your stay

As for the annual duration of your cover, if you choose the multi-trip policy, that's up to you. Of course, the greater the number of days, the more expensive the policy.
The insurance I received last March, for example, allows me to make an almost unlimited number of insured trips, for up to 35 days. It's very important to discuss this point with your broker.

Of course, it's likely that your trip will exceed the maximum number of days discussed with your insurer. In this case, you'll simply have to pay a supplement to extend the duration of your coverage!

Sometimes it's better to take out a smaller policy and pay extra as you go along, rather than taking out a longer initial package. Don't forget to ask your advisor for more information on this subject, and don't hesitate to compare the prices of annual cover according to trip length and extensions.

3. Add cancellation/interruption and baggage insurance for even more protection

I asked my insurance The answer is no, if cancellation/interruption and baggage insurance were included with the Multi-Trip Annual Travel Insurance policy. However, it is possible to include this type of insurance for a trip that you're not sure you'll be able to take in time, or that you feel is particularly risky.

In this case, it's up to you to define the maximum amount that can be refunded. If, for example, the price of the flight you have booked is 450$, you should choose an amount equivalent to this sum. This is the amount that will be reimbursed in the event of flight cancellation, if the reason is one of those mentioned in the policy.

4. Numerous advantages with the multi-trip annual policy

In short, this policy is :

  • Economical, both for your time and your money if you travel several times a year;
  • Flexible, because you can extend your package at any time during your trip;
  • Optional, if you choose a more economical annual plan for Canada only or if you decide to travel to other countries;
  • Sufficient, because you won't have to subscribe to any more online travel insurance on every trip;
  • You won't have to spoil your vacation by calling your insurance company every time;

Attractive, because the annual multi-trip policy also covers outdoor activities and amateur sports such as zip-lining, which is very interesting for adventurers like me.

Thanks to the good advice of my broker, I've been able to try out this policy for several months now, and to say the least, I'm very happy not to have to worry about my emergency medical insurance policy for the rest of the year.

If you're still hesitating about choosing your annual policy, apply online and maybe, like me, you'll open your eyes!
