The result: a much more detailed mapping that could reclassify about <strong>30% more residences<\/strong> in a risk category. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:22px;font-weight:600;color:#0d1f2d\">A reminder of the historic floods in Quebec<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:17px;line-height:1.8;color:#334155\">This reform comes in a context marked by major disasters. In <strong>2017<\/strong>, spring flooding affected 261 municipalities and more than 5,400 homes, resulting in estimated government costs of nearly $300 million. In <strong>2019<\/strong>, the failure of the Sainte-Marthe-sur-le-Lac dike hit 314 municipalities, generating <strong>$438 million<\/strong> in claims from the government. Nationally, insured losses from natural disasters reached a record <strong>$8.5 billion in 2024<\/strong>, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/bac-quebec.qc.ca\/fr\/enjeux-en-assurance-de-dommages\/inondations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC).<\/a> Flooding alone accounts for <strong>75% of disaster relief costs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:28px;font-weight:700;color:#0d1f2d\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How-to-check-if-your-home-is-in-a-flood-zone\"><\/span>How to check if your home is in a flood zone<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:17px;line-height:1.8;color:#334155\">The first step for any homeowner is to know their exact situation.
